Hotel Stella is located above Locarno in quiet Orselina and offers panoramic views of Lake Maggiore. The Schürpf family has been running the hotel since 1972, now in its third generation. Many guests return year after year, attracted by the location, the service, and a team that has been working together for years. The hotel combines what is rarely found together in Ticino: tranquility above the lake and quick access to Locarno and Ascona.
In 1972, Rita and Jakob Schürpf took over the Hotel Stella with 17 guests. Rita, still active today and called “the real boss of the hotel” by many, shaped the hotel for decades. After 22 years, the couple handed over the management to their son René in 1994. Since 2024, the third generation has also been involved: Céline Schürpf as Deputy Hotel Director. What makes the hotel special is not only the family tradition, but also the team. Some employees have been with us for over 30 years, know regular guests by name and know how the hotel works.
From the terrace, the restaurant, or the room balcony, you can see across the entire Lake Maggiore to Italy. In the morning, soft light lies over the mountains, in the evening the setting sun is reflected in the water. The location at 400 meters above sea level guarantees an unobstructed view. This view shapes the whole house and is one of the main reasons why guests come back every year.
The garden of Hotel Stella is planted with palm trees and flowers and offers various areas for different needs. The lawn and sun terrace invite you to relax, shady spots offer retreat on hot days. The heated outdoor pool is rare in this price range and region and offers a direct view of the lake. While families appreciate the playground and lawn, couples will find quiet corners for reading.
The restaurant offers a bright dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake and an adjoining panoramic terrace for outdoor dining. The cuisine focuses on regional products and seasonal ingredients. In addition to Ticino specialties such as risotto and polenta, you will find international dishes as well as vegetarian and vegan options. Pasta and baked goods are freshly prepared daily in the house.
